Durlag’s Tower stands like a single massive fang atop a wall of volcanic rock that rises out of the otherwise smooth plains rolling south of the Wood of Sharp Teeth. Built by a hero named Durlag, the tower serves as tomb and treasure trove waiting to be plundered. New rumors always surface that some new fiend has defeated the wards and taken residence in the tower. Every season adventurers mount new expeditions to Durlags Tower from Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep, armed by the exhaustive maps and notes of earlier bands. Every year, they get a room or two deeper into the deadly maze before giving up and bringing back the bodies of those victims they could get out.
Durlags Tower has become a tourist attraction. Enterprising merchants in Baldurs Gate, Berdusk, Beregost, and Nashkel mount expeditions to view it for 50 gp a head, round trip, all meals included. Such trips usually feature hunting along the way and always include a daytime foray into a few of the well-known tower chambers. Information on the current denizens of the tower is available for a small price in the tiny human and gnome settlement named Gullykin, a couple of miles from Durlag’s Tower.
